KETAN MODY, MD, CAQSM

Dr. Ketan Mody specializes in sports medicine and has extensive experience in medical and non-surgical orthopedic care, including game coverage, training room and continuity care.

Dr. Mody, a native of Chicago, has a passion for sports that began early in childhood and has remained a lifelong fan of the Cubs, Bulls and Bears.  When he later became committed to pursuing a life in medicine he knew he wanted to combine his two greatest loves – sports and medicine.  As such, even during his medical school days, Dr. Mody took every training opportunity available in sports medicine and often created his own learning opportunities. While in medical school, Dr. Mody completed Sports Medicine rotations in Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles where he covered high school, college teams as well as pro golf events and marathons.

He received his medical degree from the Chicago Medical School/Finch University of Health Sciences. Dr. Mody completed his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center at Shadyside Hospital, where he also spent extensive time at the UPMC Sports Medicine Center learning from the likes of Drs. David Stone & Tanya Hagen as well as some of the orthopedic surgeons. During residency, Dr. Mody also worked in Australia with local sports physicians as well as with doctors at the renowned Australian Sports Medicine Institute. There he treated athletes of all sorts and covered sports such as rugby and cricket.  Also during residency, Dr. Mody worked in Dallas where he covered triathlons, high school and college football as well as rodeos.

Dr. Mody’s fellowship training in Sports Medicine occurred at the University of Connecticut where he took care of the Connecticut Huskies. He covered athletes in the training room, at games and in a clinical setting for all injuries and medical conditions. Game coverage included UConn Division I football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and hockey. He also worked with the Hartford Foxforce pro tennis team and the Connecticut Sun (WNBA). He was trained by Drs. Thomas Trojian, Jeffrey Anderson and Diana Heiman in Sports Medicine as well as Drs. Robert Arciero and. Michael Joyce in Orthopaedics. Needless to say, with his close work with UConn, Dr. Mody is also a very avid Huskies fan!

Following his fellowship training, Dr. Mody returned to Chicago where he worked for two years with an orthopedic group in the Chicago area. Dr. Mody has now branched out and founded ESMI in order to provide top care for patients and athletes in the community.

He is currently the team doctor for the Hinsdale South High School, Downers Grove South High School, several local gymnastics clubs and cheerleading clubs as well as soccer, football and swim clubs. Dr. Mody is also one of the physicians for the USA swimming network. In addition to sports medicine, Dr. Mody specializes in and has an excellent non-surgical protocol for the treatment of Osteoarthritis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and other repetitive use injuries. Dr. Mody is trained in and has a protocol for safe returns from concussions and continues to educate the athletes, parents and coaches, on risks, symptoms, return-to-play, and outcomes from concussions. Dr. Mody also is trained in steroid abuse counseling.

His goal for each patient is to safely return them to the sports and activities that they love participating in, whether it be working around the house, hiking, enjoying hobbies, playing weekend ball, or competitive sports, Dr. Mody’s passion is getting them back to their “sport”.
