Ultrasound & Injection
Recent advances in high-resolution ultrasound imaging offer new opportunities for improving the care of patients with orthopedic and sports medicine injuries. Just as ultrasound has been used for many years in looking at fetuses in pregnant women, ultrasound uses sound waves to provide real-time, high-resolution images of tendons, ligaments, muscles, and nerves throughout the body.
request an appointmentUltrasound offers us high quality images that are equal to or can be better than MRI images. It is much more cost effective as well and can be done right in the office on a patient visit for immediate results without the hassle of getting prior authorization or making separate appointments at MRI facilities. The other advantage that diagnostic ultrasound has over MRI or CT scans is that they are done live and are dynamic so Dr. Mody can watch movement of muscles, tendons, bones that patients feel are snapping or popping. If a patient has more pain in a specific position, Dr. Mody can use the ultrasound to watch the anatomy as the patient goes from neutral position to the position of interest in order to come up with a more specific diagnosis. Ultrasound has also changed the way injections are done and Dr. Mody does all of his injections under guidance.
“With ultrasound, there is no reason to do an injection blind and guess at where the needle is placed, as I can now see exactly where I want to place the needle and inject only when I am in the correct location. It has changed the way I do injections and improved accuracy of injections.” – Dr. Mody
Dr. Mody has been formally trained and is a skilled in the use of ultrasound to diagnose and treat injuries of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage. He is also skilled in using the ultrasound for his injections. He uses the monitor to show patients the pathology of the injury, where he will place the needle and then shows the patients that the needle is in the correct location before injecting.
